In 2011 I was a intern for The Cape Lookout National Seashore in North Carolina. It was quite an experience giving tours up and down the lighthouse all day long. I loved going on the guided wild horse tours of Shackleford Banks.
|The wild horses actually swim in the shallow inlets during low tide to get to better marsh grass that is their main diet on the island.|
|In this photo I was able to capture one of the wild horses looking across the inlet to the lighthouse, just breathless.|
While patrolling the beach I spotted something large in the distance washing up on the shore, it was a grey pelican all tangled up in fishing tackle. After spending about 20 min carefully holding the young pelican, while two rangers cut off all the tackle and fishing wire, he was cut free from all the wire and tackle. Quite an amazing experience.
